What can I print for St Patrick's Day?
St Patrick's Day is a fun day in many classrooms and homes, with green clothes, shamrocks and games. This maker gives you three things to print, all built from your own words, so the hunt fits your room and the name tags fit your class.
It is free, runs in your browser and needs no account. Choose A4 or US Letter, then print or save as a PDF.
- Treasure hunt clue cards: six to a page, numbered, from your own clues, with a hiding key for the grown-up.
- Shamrock name tags: eight to a page with a shamrock and each name.
- St Patrick's bingo: two cards to a page, each a different arrangement, plus a caller sheet.
When is St Patrick's Day 2027?
St Patrick's Day is always on 17 March. In 2027 it falls on a Wednesday, which makes it a school day in most places. St Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, and the day is celebrated in Ireland and by Irish communities and many others around the world, often with parades and plenty of green.
How does the treasure hunt work?
You write one clue per line and one hiding spot per line, in the same order. Clue 1 points to the first spot, where clue 2 is hidden. Clue 2 points to the second spot, where clue 3 waits, and so on. The last clue points to the treasure, which goes in the last spot.
The maker prints the clue cards and a hiding key that tells you exactly where each card goes. Clue 1 is handed to the hunters at the start. Tick each card on the key as you hide it, so nothing gets missed. The sample clues are written for a classroom, with spots like the coat pegs and the book corner; replace them with your own.
- Walk around the room and choose up to 12 hiding spots.
- Type them in the order the hunters should find them.
- Write a clue for each spot, in the same order. The last clue leads to the treasure.
- Print and cut out the clue cards.
- Hide each card using the key, then give clue 1 to the hunters.
Tips for clues and for running the hunt with a class
Short clues work best for younger children. A rhyme or a riddle is fun, but a simple description is fine too: "Look where the sunshine comes in" is enough for a window. For a mixed age group, pair older and younger children so everyone can join in.
Keep the treasure simple and fair to share, such as chocolate coins, stickers or a class reward. If you run the hunt with several groups, give each group a different starting clue to spread them out, or print one set per group and use separate spots.
With a big group, one long trail can turn into a crowd at every spot. Two simple fixes help. Split the class into teams and print one set of clues per team, each with its own spots and treasure. Or keep one trail and send teams off a few minutes apart.
Hide the cards just before the hunt, so nobody finds them early, and keep the key in your pocket. Count the cards back in at the end, and check the last spot so the treasure is shared out fairly.
St Patrick's bingo
The bingo cards use a built-in list of St Patrick's words, such as shamrock, rainbow, pot of gold, harp and parade, with a Lucky square in the middle. Add 24 or more words of your own for full cards (fewer than eight uses the built-in list), for example spelling words or class names. Choose from 4 to 30 cards; each one is a different arrangement, and the caller sheet lists every word to cut out and draw from a bowl.
Your inputs set the arrangement, so printing again with the same words gives the same cards.
Printing tips and privacy
Card stock helps the name tags and clue cards survive small hands. The ink saver option makes the pages grey if you are printing a big class set.
