A New Year's resolution printable you fill in first

Many free New Year's resolution printables are blank pages you download and write on. This one is built from your answers. You type a word, a few intentions and your habits, and they land on the sheet, ready to print or save as a PDF.

It is free, works in your browser and needs no account. Choose A4 or US Letter, and pick 2027 or 2026 for the year on the page.

What is on the reset sheet

The kit is two pages.

  • Page one is the reset sheet: your word for the year, three intentions, something you are leaving behind and something you are looking forward to.
  • Page two is a January habit tracker with up to six of your own habits, one row each, and a square for every day of the month.
  • The habit page also has two short prompts to fill in at the end of the month: what helped, and what you will try in February.

How to pick a word of the year

A word of the year is a short guide for your choices. It is easier to remember than a list, and it gives you something to ask when you are not sure what to do: does this fit my word?

There is no right word. It should feel a little bit true now and a little bit like where you want to go. Words people often choose include steady, brave, gentle, focus, enough and play.

  1. Think back over the year. When did you feel at your best, and when did you feel stretched too thin?
  2. Write down what you would like more of and less of next year.
  3. List three to five words that describe the "more of" side.
  4. Say each one out loud and pick the one you would not mind seeing every day.
  5. Type it into the sheet and put it where you will see it, like the fridge or beside your desk.

Writing intentions that stick

An intention is a plain sentence about how you want to live, and a good one is specific enough to act on. "Be healthier" is hard to start. "Walk 20 minutes after lunch" is easy to picture.

These tips can help your three intentions last past the first cold week of the year.

  • Write what you will do, not what you will stop doing. "Read before bed" beats "Stop scrolling".
  • Keep them small enough to do on a bad day. You can always do more.
  • Tie each one to something you already do, such as after breakfast or on the commute.
  • Choose three at most. The sheet has room for three because three is enough to focus on.
  • Tell one person, or put the sheet where others will see it.

Leaving something behind, and looking forward to something

Two short lines on the sheet are easy to skip and worth filling in. Writing what you are leaving behind, such as a grudge, a habit or an old routine, gives you permission to let it go. Writing what you are looking forward to reminds you that the year is not only about effort.

It can be tiny. A trip, a book, a friend visiting, or a quiet Sunday all count.

Habit tracking tips, and what to do when you miss a day

Page two has a row for each habit and a column for every day of January. Colour in a square when you keep the habit. The picture builds up quickly and you can see at a glance how the month is going.

You will miss a day at some point. When you do, start again the next day and leave the square empty. The empty squares are useful, because they show which days of the week are hardest and what might need to change.

  1. Choose no more than three to four habits at first. The grid has room for six, but fewer is easier.
  2. Make each habit small and clear, like "Walk 20 minutes" or "Read 10 pages".
  3. Keep the sheet where you will pass it every day.
  4. Colour in the square straight after you do the habit, not at the end of the week.
  5. At the end of January, write what helped and what you will try in February.

Printing tips and your privacy

Use US Letter in the US and Canada, and A4 almost everywhere else. Set scale to 100 percent in the print window so the grid fits the sheet. Ink saver keeps the gold panels as outlines only, which helps when your colour ink is low.

Your word, intentions and habits are kept only in this page's link, after the # sign, and are never sent to a server. Use Copy my link to save the link and reprint the same sheet whenever you need it.

Questions people ask

Is this New Year's resolution printable free?

Yes. It is free to use, needs no account, and works in your browser. You can print it or save it as a PDF as many times as you like.

What is on the New Year reset sheet?

The first page has your word for the year, three intentions, something you are leaving behind and something you are looking forward to. The second page is a January habit tracker with room for up to six habits.

Can I make New Year resolutions printables with my own habits?

Yes. Type up to six habits, one per line, and they print as rows on the tracker with a square for every day of January. Leave the box empty if you would like blank rows to fill in by hand.

How do I choose a word of the year?

Think about what you want more of and less of next year, list a few words that describe the "more of" side, and pick the one you would be happy to see every day. It should feel a little true now and a little like where you want to go.

How many resolutions should I write?

The sheet has room for three intentions. Fewer, clearer goals are easier to remember and to act on than a long list, and you can always add more by hand.

What should I do if I miss a day on my habit tracker?

Leave the square empty and start again the next day. One missed day does not undo the rest of the month, and the gaps can show you which days need a different plan.

Can I choose 2026 or 2027?

Yes. There is a year option on the form with 2027 and 2026, and the one you choose is printed on the sheet.

Are my answers saved or sent anywhere?

No. They are kept only in the link after the # sign in your browser and are never sent to a server. Use Copy my link to come back to the same sheet later.
