How do Super Bowl squares work?

Super Bowl squares is a simple game that lets anyone at a party follow the score, even people who do not watch much football. The grid has 100 squares, ten across and ten down. One team sits across the top and the other down the side.

Players claim squares until the grid is full. Then the numbers 0 to 9 are drawn at random and written along the top and down the side, one number per row and column. Because the numbers come out after the squares are picked, nobody knows in advance which squares are lucky.

At the end of each quarter, take the last digit of each team's score. If the top team has 17 and the side team has 10, look for the 7 across the top and the 0 down the side. The square where that column and row meet wins the quarter. Prizes are up to the organiser, and plenty of groups play just for bragging rights, snacks or a small trophy.

What does this squares maker print?

Two pages. The first is the grid: your title, the team names in bands along the top and side, the numbers if you chose to draw them, and players' names in the squares. Every square also has a small number from 1 to 100 so people can call out which square they want.

The second page is a quarter by quarter sheet with rows for the first quarter, halftime, the third quarter and the final score. Each row has space for both scores, the winning square and the name. Under it is a list of every player with how many squares they have, and a few lines for notes from the organiser.

  • A 10x10 grid with team names on both axes.
  • Random 0 to 9 numbers for each team, or blank spaces to draw by hand.
  • Names filled in order, scattered, or left blank.
  • A results sheet and a player list with square counts.

How do I add players and give someone several squares?

Type each player on their own line. To give a player more than one square, add x and a number after their name, such as "Aunt Rosa x3". The maker repeats that name for three squares. The grid holds 100 squares in total, and any names past that are left off.

If you choose "In order", names fill the grid from the top left, row by row. "Scattered" spreads them across the grid in a random pattern, so one player's squares are not all in a line. "Leave blank" prints an empty grid so guests can write their own names in at the party, which works well when people arrive at different times.

How are the numbers drawn?

When you choose "Draw random numbers now", the maker shuffles the digits 0 to 9 once for the top and once for the side. The shuffle is based on your team names, title and draw number, so printing again gives exactly the same numbers. That matters if you share the link with a co-host: you both see the same grid.

Want a different set? Change the "Number draw" setting from Draw 1 to Draw 2, and you get a fresh shuffle. Many groups like to fill the squares first and only draw the numbers once the grid is full. To do that, choose "Leave blank", print the grid, collect names, then come back, switch numbers on and print a final copy. Or simply pull numbers from a hat and write them in.

Tips for running squares at a party

  1. Print the grid a day early and stick it on a wall or a board near the TV.
  2. Let guests pick their squares as they arrive, or fill them from your list before the party.
  3. Draw or reveal the numbers just before kick-off.
  4. After each quarter, read the last digit of each score and write the result on the second page.
  5. Announce the winning square and name for each quarter, and the final score at the end.

When is the next Super Bowl?

Super Bowl LXI is scheduled for Sunday 14 February 2027 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. Once the two teams are known, type their names into the maker and print.

The grid works for any football game, not only the Super Bowl. Use it for a playoff game, a college bowl game or a school league final. Just change the team names and the title.

Printing tips and privacy

Choose A4 or US Letter before printing. The grid fills most of the page, so print at 100% scale rather than fit to page if your printer offers the choice. For a big wall grid, save as a PDF and ask a print shop to enlarge it.

Team names and players stay in the link after the # in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server or stored on our side.

Is this affiliated with the NFL?

PrintableYear is not affiliated with or endorsed by the NFL. Super Bowl is a trademark of the NFL. This is a free party-game sheet. Many places restrict playing squares for money, so check local rules and play for fun.
